Gifted Program

We just had Jared tested yesterday with a child psychologist to see if he could get into the gifted program for kindergarten and he passed with flying colors. He had to have an IQ over 130, his was 138, and he had to get a 90% on either the reading or math test and he scored over 99% in both! I knew that little man was smart but I was actually taken back with how well he did. I love that they have the ability to do this so that he doesn't end up getting in trouble out of being bored in school. Plus the school we are zone for is okay but now the one we can send him to with the gifted program is the best in the area. So excited for him!

We had a conference call with Gladney this week and they said that the average wait time for a referral over 13 months is 4 months and that if you get yours by the end of May you have a shot at bringing him home by the time everything closes down for rainy season. That would be at 3 1/2 months on the wait list for us so it's possible but not a given by any chance. I am praying and asking everyone I know to pray that we are lucky enough to have this happen because I know God hears our prayers. However, if it doesn't I know that it's because our child wasn't ready and that it will all work out the way it is supposed to in the end. I have never had this much faith before this experience and have to say that it is so wonderful to have during this time. But I can't stop praying the phone rings sooner than later!

  1. Good luck! We are not too far behind you on the list and hoping to get back to our original age bracket of 0-18 months instead of 0-12 months-somehow CIS only approved us for 0-12 months-we have had that kind of luck so far!

  2. Keep praying! We were only on the waitlist for about 3 1/2 months. We felt God really stirring our hearts to pray at 3 months and we prayed like crazy. We'll be praying for your little boy to come home soon!

  3. Parent-to-Parent tip: As Jared enters into second grade, do not allow the school district to promote him several grades if they lack a quality gifted and talented program. We made the fatal mistake of doing that with our child and socially/emotionally, it took a toll on him never "fitting in" with kids 3-4 years older then he in the classroom and having to take courses at the nearby community college to keep him stimulated was a "zoo".

Find a good quality Gifted and Talented Program that speaks to multiple learning styles and encourages both left/right brain thinking!
